Brewpub in the former Young’s brewery tap.
This historic pub in the middle of Wandsworth is open again, now with its own microbrewery, Sly Beast Brewing. This provides the main beery interest, with the rest of the beer range being a fairly standard Young’s offer, which wouldn’t normally make it into the Guide on its own. The intention is to always have around 2-3 Sly Beast beers available, including some on cask. We have tried all three beers produced to date and have been impressed, though some will find the winter beer overly spiced. However, the keg 1533 ‘session IPA’ and the cask 4ft 2 Porter are both very good indeed. Alexis, head brewer, is from northern France, and previously worked at Sambrooks and Partizan, so he has a range of different influences and some interesting ideas for future beers. There is a window into the brewery from the main bar and lots of Young’s memorabilia and photos on the walls of the pub, which is run by Lee and Keris, who have a long history with the company and are aware of the special history of this pub and the site it’s on.
Former flagship pub for Young's attached to the sadly departed Ram Brewery. Now sympathetically refurbished and home to SlyBeast brewery whose smart brewkit is visible in the bar area. The beers they are producing are excellent which bodes well for the future. I haven't tried the food yet but I have it on good authority (my In-Laws) that it is very good.
