London Area Breweries

London's brewing scene continues to expand at a rapid pace. As far as we are aware, there are now 141 active breweries in the London area, comprising 110 production breweries and 31 brewpubs. Our criteria is as follows:

  • We only count actual, physical breweries with their own brewing kit within the London area, brewing the majority of their beer commercially on that kit. A pilot kit used occasionally, for show, or to 'justify' one's status as a 'brewery' does not qualify.

  • The London area is defined as the 33 London Boroughs shown here: http://directory.londoncouncils.gov.uk/

  • Where two or more brewing companies share one brewing kit, we count this as one brewery.

  • Ram Brewery are contractually not allowed to brew commercially pending the completion of the redevelopment of the site, but we include them given their special role in preserving brewing heritage on the historic former Young's site in Wandsworth.

  • We do not include 'breweries' using 'techno-brewing' equipment such as Truebrew.  Our view is that this is not proper brewing and should not be encouraged.

  • We also don't include breweries producing sake, kvass or similar.

  • This page is a continual work in progress as we get information about new London breweries virtually every week. With the current pace of change it's very hard to keep up to date, so if you are aware of any other breweries within the London area that are brewing commercially on their own kit then please let us know.
