I keep lots of lists of things that I have seen and done, not least the beers I have tried and the pubs I have visited. There is a certain thrill about going to a new place for the first time, unsure of what you may find, and that's why researching this guide is so much fun. However, there are some places that keep drawing you back, whether it's because you know you are going to find a good range of new and interesting beers, or you just want to relax with a beer and good company. Ghost Whale (Brixton) 70 Atlantic Road, London SW9 8PX Bottle shop bar with over 400 beers.

Ghost Whale (Putney) 134 Upper Richmond Road, London SW15 2SP Bottle shop bar near East Putney station.

Hop Burns & Black (Peckham) 38 East Dulwich Road, London SE22 9AX Stylish beer shop specialising in beer, hot sauce and vinyl.

It Ain't Much if it Ain't Dutch 67-68 Enid Street, London SE16 3RA Dutch bar in the heart of Bermondsey's beer mile.

Star and Garter 227 High Street, Bromley BR1 1NZ Traditional pub on Bromley High Street, now serving a superb range of beers.

Stormbird 25 Camberwell Church Street, London SE5 8TR Highly impressive specialist beer bar.

Sutton Arms 16 Great Sutton Street, London EC1V 0DH Traditional pub with a modern beer range.

The Bear, Paddington 29 Spring Street, London W2 1JA Craft Beer Co pub right by Paddington Station.

The Great Northern Railway Tavern 67 High Street, Hornsey, London N8 7QB Classic 1897 pub, now a Fullers pub.

The Harp 47 Chandos Place, London WC2N 4HS One of the best pubs in London, now lovingly cared for by Fullers.

The Kings Arms (Bethnal Green) 11a Buckfast Street, London E2 6EY Excellent corner pub now under the same ownership as the Sutton Arms.

The Rake 14a Winchester Walk, London SE1 9AG Tiny beer bar in Borough Market.

Honourable Mention

These pubs are not quite (yet) to the level of a Top Pick, but they are ones to watch. They are very much worth a visit if you have the time.

Lowlander 36 Drury Lane, London WC2B 5RR Specialist Belgian beer cafe/restaurant with one of the best Belgian beer lists in London.
